For Mississippi Eye Care founder Gil Davis, Friday was a dream that had been in the works for quite some time. Friday, Mississippi Eye Care Ackerman officially held its grand opening. The eye clinic, located on Chester Street just behind Bank of Kilmichael, has been open for a few months and they say the reception has been well. “We’ve been wanting to do this for 20 years. We didn’t want to come and open for one day and then leave. We wanted to be full time,” Davis said. He said when the opportunity rose, they jumped on it. Ackerman becomes the newest in the family of eye care clinics. According to their website, they have locations in Bay Springs, Carthage, Louisville, Macon, Meridian, Newton, Philadelphia, Starkville, Taylor and Union. Dr. Chris Herring said when we came aboard, opening an office in Ackerman has been the talk for quite sometime. “People said that when you come to Ackerman and Choctaw County, they really support their local businesses, and that’s been the case,” he said. Herring said the reception has been well and they’ve met some really nice people since opening in August. It’s been quite some time since there was an eye doctor in Ackerman. The last eye doctor was Dr. Reagan Ford, Sr., who owned Ford Vision Clinic. “We’re happy to have you here, and if there’s anything we can do for you just let us know,” Mayor Dale Reid said. Reid said he hopes that Mississippi Eye Care Ackerman remains for many, many years to come. Chamber President Suellen Clement said the Chamber wants to really focus on helping their businesses and their excited to have Mississippi Eye Care aboard. After a prayer by District 4 Supervisor John Shumaker and the ribbon cutting, there were refreshments and a tour of the clinic. Each room has pictures that are specific to Ackerman, taken by Ackerman native Brian Utley. To make an appointment with Mississippi Eye Care Ackerman, contact 662-285-9148.
