Hunter Metts, singer and songwriter, who recently made it the finals of American Idol and still receiving accolades for his performances.
Metts who has connections to Winston County is growing in poular and pulled a spotlight on his talent during the American Idol show. Metts father is Jimmy Metts who grew up in Winston and graduated from Louisville High School. Hunter’s grandfather, Deedye Metts, still resides in Winston in Calvary community as do several of his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Metts earned a golden ticket to Hollywood during his American Idol Season 19 audition which aired Feb. 28 and he wrapped up his American Idol television spotlight with the finale as he sang with Katy Perry on May 23. American Idol Top 7 finalist Metts shared photos with Perry on his social media as well.
Following the American Idol show, Metts performed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. On the show, Metts noted that American Idol had opened up some amazing opportunities for him — including the offer to appear on DeGeneres’ show. He called Idol a “launchpad” for his career.
“I learned so much and made so many friends and doors have been opened,” Hunter said. He added that he experienced “so much beautiful growth” during his time on the show. “I am excited to see what is next and to get home and to get to work for real,” he continued. “Because at the end of the day this is the launch pad...”
The 22-year-old singer also has a new single out called “20,000 Kisses.” The song made it to Number 1 on the iTunes singer/songwriter charts, and his other songs “The River” and “Loaded Gun” also broke the Top 10.
