A Lauderdale County man is in the Winston-Choctaw Regional Correctional Facility after he and three other men broke in Jr. Food Mart on North Church Avenue on Saturday, July 15.
Louisville Police Department Investigator Mike Perkins said Lorenzo Powell, of Meridian, has been charged with burglary, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.
He stated the department received a call about the burglary at 2:24 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to the report, the men allegedly broke into the store by throwing a brick through the front door to gain access.
Perkins said the men attempted to break into the safe but were unsuccessful and were only able to make it out with 20 packs of cigarettes.
Powell was apprehended two blocks over in a Jeep Patriot. Inside the vehicle, Perkins said there were burglary tools and cocaine. He also stated there was a gun that was stolen out of Meridian.
In the same night, Perkins stated it’s believed the men also took a Toyota Camry from Spring Street. He said the Camry has not been recovered.
The department is still working to identify the other three men involved, anyone with any information should contact the Louisville Police Department.
Powell is being held on a $125,000 bond.
