Many were in attendance – so much so there was an overflow room – to see Martha Caradine sworn as the new Chief of Police of the Town of Ackerman. Caradine takes over the helm of the department from Chief Tim Cook. Cook is retiring after over 20 years of service in law enforcement.
Nervous, Caradine took the oath in front of her family, friends, and community members.
Overwhelmed with the amount of people that came out just to celebrate and see her sworn in, Caradine expressed her gratitude and told those in attendance that she will uphold the office to the best of her ability.
She told those in attendance that it wasn’t only her that would make history today, it was for everyone who will come behind her. And that she stood on the shoulders of those who went before her breaking barriers.
Caradine’s husband, Lawrence, who is the Chief of Police in Eupora was able to pin her. Columbus Chief of Police Joseph Daughtry and members of the Mississippi Chief of Police Association and Sheriff Brandon Busby held a prayer for Caradine as she began her tenure.
After celebrating her oath with her family and friends, Caradine went back to work – this time as Chief Martha Caradine.
