New Maben Lions Club officers were installed July 13 by Past District Gov. Jimmy Puckett of Amory.
New officers are President Rose Graham, Vice President Shawn Nygard, Secretary Nellie Blade, Treasurer Ed James, Lion Tamer Nellie Blade, Tail Twister Earl Blade, Public Relations Chair Jane Collins and Lion Clubs International Fund Chair Joe Ann Williams.
Before installing officers, PDG Jimmy Puckett gave those attending a review of the activities and services that are provided by Lions Clubs in Mississippi, across the USA and the world.
He described his latest project: feeding the Lions of Mississippi All-State Band members during their week of practice before their performances in Orlando and Tampa, Fla., this year. He thanked the Maben Lions for their contribution to this important job.
He also mentioned that Lions' money provides for the Mississippi Eye Bank, eyesight testing in schools and health fairs, making sight exams and eyeglasses available to people who qualify, collecting gently used eyeglasses for recycling, sponsoring diabetes awareness programs, planting trees and promoting better environmental ecology, sponsoring folks who need cataract surgery through the Mid-South Sight and Hearing Foundation, and many more projects like providing support for measles prevention world-wide.
Everything the Lions do is designed to save eyesight in people.
In closing the meeting President Rose expressed her gratitude to the group of her friends and supporters who attended the meeting in her honor. Several of these individuals expressed interest in joining the Maben Lions Club, so you may be seeing them soon as they are inducted to membership in the club.
Membership in a Lions Club is by invitation only, and is an honor to be selected based on interest and willingness to work for the good of the community. Anyone who is interested in visiting a club meeting should contact any of the aforementioned members who are officers in the Maben Club.
