The Maben Home and Garden Club recently installed new officers for the next fiscal year. They are Glenda Dobbs, president; Sandra Bishop, vice president; Jane Collins, secretary; and Jeanette McMurry, treasurer. Gean Gilbert, a member and former school teacher, installed the officers using "planting of a garden" as the theme. Flower seeds representing each office were Shasta daisy seeds for the president, butterfly wildflower seeds for the vice president, forgetme-not seeds for the secretary and marigold seeds for the treasurer. Gean gave each officer in turn a large photo of her respective flower and a package of flower seeds to plant next year's "club garden" with. Then she gave each member present a bumblebee spike (to stick down in a potted plant) as a representative "Worker Bee" to encourage them to be active workers in the "garden" and community as the year progresses. The club will soon be active in selling birthday calendars and ads to raise money for its many gardening projects, including plantings at the “Welcome” sign, at the Maben Public Library, on the corners at the four-way stop in Maben and the post office corner on Hwy. 15, and the planter boxes on Main Street, among some other plantings around town. If you are interested in purchasing a birthday calendar for 2025 or in purchasing an advertisement on the calendar, please contact one of the aforementioned officers or any other member of the club.
