Louisville Police Department will be taking part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, which will take place on Tuesday, May 9. The event is a 5k run/walk event, and the public is encouraged to participate. The event is free to the public.
Chief Sean Holdiness and Community Liaison Patricia Whitcomb are looking to not only bring about community awareness, but also to promote acceptance and inclusion of children with special needs. The torch run event, which involves police and county sheriff’s departments from across the state, will also raise funds for the Mississippi state Special Olympics event.
The torch run will begin in Southaven, MS on Monday, May 8. It will end on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Special Olympics is scheduled to take place on May 12 – 14, 2023 at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.
Anyone who is interested is invited to take part in this fun event. The official torch will be carried by a member of the police department, while participants may carry torches made by students in the school district. Chief Holdiness shared that all classes within the LMSD schools have been invited to assist in making torches for the event.
Interested individuals may join members of the LPD at the Louisville Safe Room on North Columbus Avenue at 11:30 a.m.
