25 Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
26 Ponder the path of your feet;
then all your ways will be sure.
27 Do not swerve to the right or to the left;
turn your foot away from evil.
— Proverbs 4:25-27 (ESV)
Daily communion with God is an important component of our daily lives.
There are many ways of doing this including reading the Word of God, spending time in prayer, worshipping God with our praise and actions, and meditating upon His ways.
All of the above can be achieved all day, every day. It’s all about focus. When you focus on the most important things in life, the rest will take care of themselves. All that really matters eternally is our personal relationship with God. When you have that right, you will be happier with the rest of your life — even when storms arise.
It is this day-by-day, hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute relationship with God that helps us follow the directions we are given in Proverbs 4:25-27
When we earnestly make God and Him alone our GPS, we can be certain we are walking the right path, whether it seems like it or not.
Verse 26 makes it clear that we need to think about the things we are doing and saying. Make a concerted effort to keep your every action in align with God’s guidelines. When we are communing with God continually its easy to keep Him in the forefront of every decision. That makes it a lot harder to step off in a pothole or wind up in a ditch.
Many Christians make the serious mistake of attempting to live in the gray areas of life — if that is even possible. The light is the light, and darkness is darkness. The gray areas are tinged with darkness and should be avoided in all situations.
Don’t swerve to the right or the left. It’s very hard to be pushed off a cliff if you don’t get close to the edge.
Above all we must be alert, be diligent, and stay focused.
