GLUCKSTADT—A Louisville woman has been charged with aggravated DUI in the vehicular death of a Canton teacher. According to the Gluckstadt Police D e p a r t m e n t ’ s Facebook post, Jordan Sullivan, 32, was traveling on I-55 Saturday, southbound in the northbound lanes near the Gluckstadt exit when she collided head on with the vehicle that Tyra Small-Jackson, 48, of Canton was driving northbound. The police department’s report states that Small-Jackson has be extricated out of her vehicle and died shortly after. Small-Jackson had two other vehicles in her vehicle that were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sullivan also had to be taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with non-lifethreatening injuries. News reports stated that Small-Jackson was a 23-year veteran teacher at Nichols Middle School. The police department told WLBT that Sullivan had a prior DUI. Sullivan was taken to a local hospital for her injuries. She was then transported to the Madison County Detention Center. Sullivan has been released on a $250,000 bond. The department posted the state statue for aggravated DUI, explaining why they charged Sullivan with it. According to the state statute: “Every person who operates any motor vehicle in violation of the provisions of subsection (1) of this section and who in a negligent manner causes the death of another or mutilates, disfigures, permanently disables or destroys the tongue, eye, lip, nose or any other limb, organ or member of another shall, upon conviction, be guilty of a separate felony for each victim who suffers death, mutilation, disfigurement or other injury and shall be committed to the custody of the State Department of Corrections for a period of time of not less than five (5) years and not to exceed twenty-five (25) years for each death, mutilation, disfigurement or other injury, and the imprisonment for the second or each subsequent conviction, in the discretion of the court, shall commence either at the termination of the imprisonment for the preceding conviction or run concurrently with the preceding conviction. Any person charged with causing the death of another as described in this subsection shall be required to post bail before being released after arrest.”
