The Grace Christian School Eagles kicked off the New Year in style, as they defeated Scott County Homeschool 69-23, after being ahead 49-7 at halftime.
Grayson Skelton had a great performance with 16 points. Bonner Brownlee also performed well as he hit five three-pointers in the first half. Later in the week the Eagles defeated Starkville Christian 52-41, improving the record to 16-3.
After a successful first half to the season, Coach Jason Morgan believes taking care of the ball is the key to success, which has not been much of a problem, as turnover numbers have been low for most of the season. Coach Taylor Troyer also believes her team’s key to success is taking care of the basketball.
The Lady Eagles started their season a few days earlier, as they finished second in the Meridian Homeschool Invitation. The tournament consisted of five teams, in which the first three games were 10 minute, running clock halves. The Lady Eagles first defeated Mt. Zion 9-2. The team later lost to Laurel Homeschool 15-13. They were able to make it back into the winners bracket defeating Meridian Homeschool 15-13, but would later lose to Laurel 29-11.
Carolyn Hogue, Aspen Harris, and Mia Brownlee were said to be leading scoring contributors throughout the tournament. Later that week against Scott County, the Lady Eagles won, but no score was reported. Carolyn Hogue reportedly scored double-digits. The Lady Eagles would lose to Starkville Christian 37-26.
GCS has three home games next week as they will play Victory Christian (Columbus) on Tuesday, Tupelo Homeschool on Friday, and Victory Christian (New Albany) on Saturday.
