Winston Academy has had its share of issues with COVID-19 but the Patriots’ basketball teams were ready to roll last week before more cancellations came into play.
WA was slated to play three district games in one week going on the road to Heritage Academy and Leake Academy and playing Lamar School, but those games were postponed. Instead, the Patriots will now take on Heritage on the road on Tuesday, Leake on Thursday and Lamar on Friday.
The Lady Patriots enter the week with a 3-5 record and 1-2 district mark having beaten Heritage already this year and losing games to Lamar School and Starkville Academy. The boys go into the week searching for their first win with an 0-6 record and 0-3 district mark. It’s been nearly a month since both teams were able to play a game.
“You finally get some stuff going and get in a rhythm and then your Christmas tournament and the week you’re supposed to come back you’re not playing,” boys coach Jordan Graham said last week. “This week of practice is going to be really big for us because we go from three weeks off to playing three games a week. Hopefully this will teach us some lessons in adversity.”
