It was a busy week for the Winston Academy volleyball team on the court as the Lady Patriots’ are winding down their 2020 schedule and it was filled with a lot of positives. The Lady Pats went 3-1 on the week and improved their record to 6-8 on the year. WA started the week by taking on West Lowndes in a match that they swept 3-0. They took home the victory with set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 27-25. Sophie Vanlandingham led the way with nine aces for the Lady Pats, Brayleigh Gregory had four aces and two kills, Bella Hillyer had five aces and four kills, Laney Gregory had five aces and two kills, Layton Nowell finished with four aces and a game-high nine kills and Lindsey Krajewski four aces and four kills. It was then on to a tournament against Winston county foes as the Lady Pats took on Noxapater and Nanih Waiya in a game each. They started the day by defeating the Tigers in two sets 25-15. Nanih Waiya got the best of WA, however in a three-set game that the Lady Warriors won 2-1. It was 25-23, 20-25 and 9-15 as the Lady Pats came up just shy of the win. In the tournament, Vanlandingham finished with six aces and six kills, Brayleigh Gregory with four aces, Hillyer with two aces and three kills , Laney Gregory with six aces and six kills and Nowell with 11 kills. The rematch that WA had with West Lowndes was much closer on Thursday night. After taking home the straight-sets win earlier in the week, this one went to five sets. The Lady Pats lost 24-26 in set one, won back-to-back sets at 25-10 and 25-9, lost set four 24-26 and won the match on a 15-8 victory in the decisive fifth set. Vanlandingham had eight aces and eight kills in that match, Brayleigh Gregory finished with seven aces and four kills, Laney Gregory four aces and six kills, Krajewski five aces and seven kills, Julianna Sims with nine aces and Nowell nine kills. WA continued to press on this week playing Choctaw County on Thursday night.
