French Camp seniors C.J. Johnson and Logan Campbell have been named to the 1A all state first team by the Mississippi Association of Coaches. Johnson played quarterback, defensive back and returned kicks for the Panthers. He was chosen as the all state team's athlete. Campbell, a two-way lineman, was selected at defensive end. Johnson completed 33 of 65 passes for 894 yards and 12 touchdowns, with only one interception. He carried 153 times for 1,319 yards (8.6 average) and 23 TDs. On special teams he returned eight kickoffs for 296 yards, with two for TD, and six punts for 62 yards. And on defense, he was credited with 57 tackles, four for losses, and had two interceptions. Johnson was chosen for the North team at the Bernard Blackwell North/South All Star game as a defensive back. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 19, at Brandon High School. Johnson is also the leading scorer for the Panthers' basketball team. Campbell was credited with 52 tackles and led the team in tackles for loss with 15 and sacks with eight. French Camp finished 6-4 and was third in Region 2-1A with a 6-2 record. The Panthers were defeated by Baldwyn in the opening round of the MHSAA playoffs. Johnson and Campbell are among six Panthers chosen as 2-1A all stars. Johnson is the region’s Offensive MVP. Others chosen are seniors Darrion Smith, Coleman Mackenzie and Rashawn Sayles and junior Christian Howell. Taylor Higginbotham of region champion Nanih Waiya was chosen as the Defensive MVP and Khi Holliday of Tupelo Christian, the state leader in total offense, as Overall MVP.
