The Choctaw County volleyball team had a busy week leading up to Tuesday's match at Belmont in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 3A State Playoffs. The Lady Chargers had victories against Grace Christian 25-23, 25-22, 25-11, Nanih Waiya 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 and Winston Academy 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 and a loss to Amory 25-19, 25-18, 25-16. “It was a tough week having four games and none of our opponents was an easy win,” said coach Miranda Worrell. “Wednesday (Amory) was really tough, our third game in three nights, but they dug deep and never slacked off. We just didn't have enough gas to make it a closer game.” Worrell said the tough week was good for her team from a conditioning standpoint heading into the playoffs. The Grace Christian match showed the team's improvement. In a match three weeks earlier, Grace Christian won 3-1. The Winston Academy match was senior night, honoring the two seniors, Addison Stacy and Jenna Bellew. The loss to Amory left Choctaw County second in Region 4-3A at 2-2, with two victories against Hatley and two losses to Amory. As a second place team, the Lady Chargers opened the playoffs on the road against Belmont, the Region 1-3A winner. The winner plays either Senatobia or Nettleton Saturday.
