Choctaw County volleyball took the first step to repeating as a region champion with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-15 victory over Hatley. “We're one fourth of our way to our goal of back-to-back division championships,” said CCHS head coach Miranda Worrell. In the three-team Region 4-3A, Choctaw County will play Hatley again in a home game Sept. 29 and has home and home with Amory Oct. 1 and 8. Jalia James led the Lady Chargers against Hatley with three kills and six aces. Molly Kate Thomas and Makenzie Sanders each had four aces and served 100 percent, Addie Stacy three kills and a block and Kiersen Easley six aces and a block. In other matches last week, Choctaw County defeated Kosciusko 25-19, 25-10, 25-14, but lost to Grace Christian 25-18, 22-25, 25-11, 25-22. Neelie Ryan Crowley had seven assists and served 93 percent against Kosciusko. Stacy had six aces, six kills, a solo block and a block assist, Sanders five kills, three digs and six receptions and Thomas served 100 percent. Worrell said the Lady Chargers showed a lot of fight against Grace Christian. “I wish that was enough, but we had too many errors, particularly serving and receiving.” James had 12 receptions and eight digs, Sanders 13 receptions and seven digs, Maylee Hollis eight assists and Crowley six assists. Choctaw County played Eupora Monday and Winston Academy Wednesday, and has a home match with Water Valley Thursday.
