The French Camp tennis team split two matches against larger schools with a 6-1 victory over 4A Kosciusko and a 5-2 loss to 5A Grenada.
French Camp winners against Kosciusko were Brennan McGlothin at boys singles, 6-0, 6-2; Grace Ann Wade at girls singles, 6-1,6-4; Ruthie Storment and Raney Peacock at girls No. 1 doubles 4-6, 6-1, 10-8; Jacob Creswell and Brady Peacock at boys No 2 doubles 6-1, 6-1; Kate Hudson and Annaleigh Bain at girls No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-2; and Cameron McDaniel and Cayley Tiller at mixed doubles, 6-1,6-0.
French Camp came within a lost tiebreaker of a sweep. At No. 1 boys doubles, William Fiedler and Parth Patel of Kosciusko defeated Josh Miller and Jeffrey Jones 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. If sets are split, the match is determined by a super (10-point) tiebreaker.
“Good win for us against Kosciusko,” said coach Larry Mincher. “The girls No 1 doubles match was exciting. Raney and Ruthie played their best tennis of the season.”
French Camp's two wins against Grenada were by Wade at girls singles 6-1, 6-0 and the McDaniel and Tiller in mixed doubles, 4-6, 7-6, 10-6. Storment and Peacck were defeated in a tiebreaker 10-8 at No 1 doubles.
“Good effort against Grenada. The girls continue to play well,” Mincher said.
The next match will be March 17 against Eupora.
