Things continue to click for the Eupora Lady Eagles as they took home a couple of more wins last week and moved to 6-2 on the year.
Eupora beat Vardaman and Ethel in their games to win three-straight on the season and continue to find ways to get the job done. Against the Lady Rams in the first game of the week, the Lady Eagles trailed 15-5in the first quarter before outscoring Vardaman by 14 points over the next three framed for the 34-30 victory.
Alexia Johnson led the team with 15 points.
While a big measuring stick game against Houston was cancelled midweek due to the Hilltoppers dealing with COVID-19, Friday night was Senior Night and the Lady Eagles honored Makaela King, Nadia Coffey, M’Nyjah Young and Artieeria Hill. Tyjuan Hughes was honored for the boys team.
Eupora girls won the game 49-39 as senior Coffey got 13points on her symbolic Senior Night, but it was the freshman Johnson who would shine again scoring a game-high 18 points in the win.
The boys squad made its debut this season last week with its two games, but they came away empty handed. Against the Rams, the Eagles fell 51-38 to tip off the week and followed it up with a 55-23 defeat to Ethel on Friday night. Eupora boys got a late start to the season due to a run into the playoffs that wiped out most of the players as a large portion was playing on the gridiron. When the season ended, however, the team had to quarantine fortwo weeks due to COVID-19.
Both teams aren’t scheduled for any games the rest of the 2020 calendar year and will return to action at the first of January to start rolling in conference play.
