The Choctaw County boys and girls’ soccer teams opened 2021 with victories over J.Z. George. The Chargers won 55-26 and the Lady Chargers 34-19.
“We changed a lot over over Christmas break defensively and offensive and the girls did well with it. They were patient with the ball” said coach Mandy Jewell. “We added several eighth graders to the roster and everyone saw the floor and did well. They are playing great together to be so young.”
Raquela Graham led Choctaw County with 14 points and Jalia James scored 10.
The Chargers were led by Caleb Cunningham, an eighth grader, with 26 points. “Overall I was very well pleased,” said coach Gary Beals.
Calvin Roverts scored 15 points, but will be lost to the team for two weeks because his father tested positive for COVID-19.
Tylan Carter had a strong performance in his first game of the season with eight points while playing multiple positions.
Choctaw County began Region 4-3A competition Tuesday with games at Houston and will entertain Aberdeen Thursday.
