It was an up-and-down week for the Noxapater baseball team.
The Tigers won a marathon contest over Winona on Monday, winning 20-18 in nine innings. Noxapater then lost 9-0 to French Camp on Tuesday.
Noxapater was scheduled to play French Camp in a makeup game on Monday. The Tigers are scheduled to play McAdams this week with game 1 at Noxapater on Tuesday and game 2 on the road on Thursday.
Noxapater 20, Winona 18
In a football-like score, the Noxapater held on to take a two-run win over Winona in a nine-inning contest on Monday.
Winona led early, scoring four in the first and three in the third for a 7-0 lead. But Noxapater answered with five runs in the fifth and trailed 8-5 after five. Each team scored two runs in the sixth inning while Noxapater scored three runs in the seventh. Each team then scored seven points in the eighth inning before Noxapater scored three in the eighth and held Winona to a single run to take the win.
Noxapater only had nine hits but took advantage of 11 errors, 11 walks and nine hit batters. Bryton Yates was 2-for-4 with a double, two walks and three RBIs. Luke Reynolds was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs while Kaden Carter was 2-for-6 with two runs scored. Braxton Daughtery was 2-for-6 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Bentley Triplett walked three times and scored three runs while Brody Joiner walked twice and scored two runs. Brady Ellison also scored three runs for Noxapater.
Yates pitched three innings and gave up seven unearned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two. Hayes Rushing pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up eight runs on seven hits while striking out four to pick up the win. Zach Lloyd pitched the last 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits and four walks.
French Camp 9, Noxapater 0
The Panthers allowed just three hits and took a shutout win over the Tigers in division play on Tuesday.
French Camp scored two in the first, four in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Bryton Yates was 2-for-2 while Luke Sunburn also singled.
Brady Ellison started on the mound and pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on five hits and six walks. Luke Reynolds pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up two unearned run on three hits.
