The citizens of Choctaw County will have an opportunity to collectively honor the past MHSAA state championship football teams of Ackerman High School and Weir High School next month.
The honor will take place before the Choctaw County Chargers vs. East Webster football game on Friday, October 7 at Dale Davidson Field in Ackerman.
Ackerman High School won the state championship in football in its division in 1997 and 2001. The team was coached by Ricky Woods and won the Class 2A District 5 Championship each time.
Weir High School won the state championship for football in the Class 1A District 2 division in 1984, 1985, 1994, 1996, 1997, and 2003. The first five winning teams were coached by Joe Lynn Gant. The last one was coached by Junior Graham.
Organizers ask all members of these teams, along with cheerleaders and band members, coaches, managers, cheerleader sponsors, and band directors be in attendance for recognition.
Interested persons should meet Oct. 7 at Dale Davidson Field in Ackerman at 6:15 p.m. for line up. The festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
