Winston Academy was back on the diamond again this week looking to avenge a tough loss to Canton Academy and the Patriots would do just that with a 2-1 week.
Starting the week at home against Indianola, the bats came alive as the Patriots poured on nine runs in the second inning to lead the way in a 12-0 win in just four innings. WA had eight hits on the offensive side of the ball led by Ben Caperton’s two-hit day. JT McGinnis and Jett Joiner each had two RBI in the game with Joiner and Trey Williamson managing to have doubles in the game as well.
It was the second-straight dominant start on the mound for Bryson Wright as well. The junior pitcher threw all four innings and gave up just one hit and one walk in the shutout. He struck out five batters.
On Thursday it was an early-season challenge against Pillow Academy. The Patriots fell down 7-4 in the sixth inning before battling back and tying the game up at 7 to send things to extra innings but Pillow would get the run it needed in a 8-7 victory.
Friday brought another run-rule win for the Patriots. WA jumped out to a 14-0 lead in two innings and would run-rule Central Holmes 15-0 in just three frames.
The Patriots improved to 3-2 on the season and will be back in action this week on the road at Winona Christian on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
