Patriots prepare for upcoming week
By ROBBIE FAULK
Taking on one of the MAIS’ most talented teams proved to be a major challenge for Winston Academy on the diamond last week.
Hartfield Academy hosted the Patriots last Friday and the Hawks scored 10 runs in the third inning to fly away in a 12-1 win. Hartfield only had six hits in the game, but three WA errors proved costly.
It didn’t help the Patriots’ matters that they struggled at the plate as well. Winston managed just one hit in the game coming from Brylee Wall’s bat when he drove in the team’s only run of the game.
Wall also pitched and threw 2.2 innings giving up three hits and nine runs, but only one of those were earned. He walked five batters and struck out one.
The Patriots are back in action with four different games this week. Tuesday night they were slated to play at home against Oak Hill Academy. The Patriots will then be headed to the road taking on Calhoun City at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Marshall Academy at 5 p.m. on Friday.
WA will turn around on Saturday and play Marshall Academy again but will host at 2 p.m.
