Only a few fortunate teams have the opportunity to claim the title of champions, and the Louisville 10-U Softball All-Stars have learned the thrill of just what that means, having traveled to Southaven on the weekend of July 9-11 and returning home earning that title.
And not only did the All-Stars win, they did so in dominant fashion, scoring 49 runs over a four-game tournament, as their opponents scored only a total of four runs. Coach James Edwards said the offense was really clicking, supporting superior pitching performances by Presley Scrivener and Addy Snow. Scrivener was named the tournament MVP, and Snow pitched two shutout games.
Edwards said these girls have been together for almost five years and have built a trust in one another—they will have each other's backs and pick up their teammates when something goes wrong. He added, "They believe in each other and that makes a big difference."
The road to the championship began in Batesville, where the All-Stars came in second in the Dizzy Dean State Tournament. They won the Grand Slam Tournament, which was played in front of hometown fans, in Louisville, before traveling to Southaven. Edwards said that some of the girls were nervous before the first game, but they adjusted well.
When the All-Stars returned home, they were met with a police escort and a good number of fans, which was exciting for the girls. Edwards thanked Mayor Will Hill and all who participated in the escort. He also thanked the community, the sponsors for their support, and the families for the commitment it has taken to succeed.
