Louisville had a three-game week on the baseball diamond this past week and that included two games with Class 4A, Region 4 rival Kosciusko.
The Wildcats lost both of those games in a double-header on the road against the Whippets. The team did have a good showing against Winston county rival Noxapater with four extra base hits in a 15-6 win over the Tigers.
Trey Eiland’s three hits led the way in the game as he pounded out two doubles, but it was also a big afternoon for Hayes Caperton with a double, triple and four RBI in the game.
Louisville wasted no time in that game getting out and taking control with two runs in the first, four in the second and four more in the third. That would be needed because Noxapter fired back in the third with six runs of its own closing the lead to 10-6.
The Wildcats buckled down, however, and would allow another run the rest of the way as Noxapater gave up five more runs in the final three innings to fall in the game.
Ben Caperton also had a two-hit game in the win and Joshua Ammons walked four times. Freshman Wyatt Long had a dominant outing in relief for the Wildcats as he came in during that third inning and limited the damage and he would finish the final 4.1 innings with three hits, two unearned runs, one walk and 10 strikeouts.
The Wildcats couldn’t replicate either the hitting or pitching performances against Kosciusko on Friday night in two games. In the first game of a double header, the Whippets scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take a close game and run away with it in a 12-2 run-rule that ended in five innings.
Six errors were the downfall of LHS. The Wildcats trailed just 3-1 in the third inning and were down 5-2 heading into the fifth before the wheels came off for them. Hitting was a struggle anyway for LHS as it had just one hit coming from the bat of Caden Thomkins. Most of the offensive production came from seven walks.
Seven runs were unearned for LHS pitchers Long and Hayes Caperton as they gave up six hits.
In game two, it was much of the same. LHS managed just one hit and committed four errors and Kosciusko scored eight runs in the third and fourth innings to win 12-0 in four frames.
Thompkins was again the only hit in the game for the Wildcats but this time there were no walks to help them get some offense going. They also struck out seven times at the plate.
The 1-2 week dropped LHS to 2-12 on the year with an 0-6 mark in Region 4. The team will play Leake Central in more district action this week. They played at home against the Gators on Tuesday and will travel to Leake on Friday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, LHS goes to Philadelphia to play Class 5A Neshoba Central at 1 p.m.
