After winning a couple of district games the week prior, the Louisville Wildcats took a step back last week.
LHS played a home and home with Class 4A, Region 4 opponent Choctaw Central but came up short in both games. The Wildcats also had a setback against Class 2A Eupora later in the week.
On Monday at home against the Warriors, eight errors were critical in the loss because Choctaw Central had eight hits as a team total. The Wildcats couldn’t overcome those defensive miscues and would end up falling 15-5 in just five innings.
Choctaw Central scored three runs in the first and seven in the second to jump out to a 10-3 lead that it wouldn’t lose. Three more runs in the fifth would put the game away for good. Eighth grader Ben Caperton paced the team with a 2-for-2 day and also walked. Trey Eiland had a triple and Joshua Ammons had a double in the loss.
It was a cleaner game the second time the two teams played in Philadelphia on Friday but most of the same as LHS couldn’t get enough hits and also had three more errors. The Wildcats had a 3-2 lead going into the fourth inning but couldn’t hold on as Choctaw Central scored six runs in the final three frames for a 8-3 win.
Out of the three hits for the Wildcats, two of them came from the bat of Ammons who was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The week finished up for the Wildcats traveling to Webster county to take on Eupora. The Eagles dominated that ball game with a 16-1 finish to lead to an 0-3 week on the field.
The Wildcats are now 4-15 on the season and 2-8 in Region 4 play. Their season will come to a close next Monday on the road at Choctaw County.
