A slow start to the season has continued for an East Webster Lady Wolverine softball team that isn’t quite used to these early-season defeats.
EWHS has now lost three games in a row and fallen below .500 at 4-6 after dropping another game to a tough Kosciusko team. The Lady Wolverines also fell to rival Eupora over in Ethel.
Against the Lady Whippets, EWHS surrendered four runs in the first inning and seven in the third on the way to an 13-4 loss. The Lady Wolverines had six hits in the loss with Emma Jennings delivering two of those and had a double.
Peytan Sanders had a tough start with seven hits and 11 runs in 2.2 innings and had eight walks in the game. Jasie Rae Flora finished the game with four hits and two runs in the final 3.1 innings, walking five batters and striking out two.
A thrilling game against the rival Lady Eagles followed on Saturday night as the two teams went back and forth but Eupora was able to hold on in the end with a 7-5 victory. The Lady Eagles trailed 2-0 early before scoring four runs in the second and two more in the fourth to get a lead they wouldn’t lose.
Sanders and Larkin Conner finished with two hits each but the Lady Wolverines had just two other hits otherwise. Faith Edwards and Conner had two RBI each. Sanders walked five more batters in 5.0 innings and surrendered nine hits and seven runs.
EWHS is working to get back on track as they played Calhoun City and Houston at Houston on Thursday night. The Lady Wolverines will also be playing South Pontotoc in a home game on Friday at 12:30 p.m. to close out Spring Break.
