As Winston Academy continues to play a monster of a schedule, the Lady Patriots took a couple of matches on the chin last week.
WA followed up a couple of big wins with two losses to strong programs Choctaw County and Lamar School. The Lady Pats started last week by traveling down Highway 15 to Ackerman to take on the Lady Chargers and came up short in a 3-1 match.
CCHS started things off with dominant 25-15 and 25-12 wins in the first two sets, but the Lady Pats battled back. In set three, WA stayed alive by taking it beyond the 25-point threshold and winning 27-25 in a great set. In the fourth set, however, the match swung to CCHS for good as it won 25-16 to get the victory.
Braley Dickerson had seven kills, five digs, two aces and two blocks in the game and Ava Chancellor finished with 15 digs.
Against a great Lamar School team, WA was outmatched. The defending Division 2 State Champion Lady Raiders never gave up more than 10 points in a single set as they won 25-10, 25-9 and 25-10 in a straight-sets victory over WA.
Dickerson had three blocks in the defeat.
This week, the Lady Pats had a rematch against Choctaw County at home on Tuesday. That match took place after press time.
