It was one of the best weeks of the year for the Lady Patriots of Winston Academy on the volleyball court as the team was able to sweep its two-game slate.
WA finished out its home slate with a Senior Night win over Heritage Academy as the team dominated the straight-sets victory 25-14, 25-17 and 25-10.
Braley Dickerson had a huge match with 12 kills on the evening. Chloe Hillyer had four kills and four aces, Layton Nowell finished with six digs, four kills and two aces, Jilian Sims had five digs, four aces and three kills, Emma Grace Loper had six aces and Ava Chancellor had eight digs in the win.
It was a competitive rematch with Pillow Academy in the second match of the week but the Lady Pats were able to get a season sweep on the Lady Mustangs winning an absolute thriller in five sets, 3-2.
It was a match that was competitive from the jump but had to be a come-from-behind win for the Lady Pats. After falling behind 25-20 and 25-19 after two sets, the Lady Pats answered the bell. WA won emphatically in a 25-12 third set and added a 25-20 win in set four. The final set went all the way down to the wire but WA prevailed with a 15-13 victory.
Layla Cefalu came up big in the win as she accumulated a team-high 11 kills. Hillyer finished with four kills and three digs, Nowell had nine kills and three digs, Dickerson produced nine kills and seven digs, Sims had 18 digs and four aces, Carson McAdory and Chancellor had nine digs and Maggie Burns finished with eight digs.
Those two victories have gotten the Lady Pats up to 10-11 on the season and the incredibly difficult schedule comes to an end next week. The Lady Pats have two of the toughest teams in the entire state in the last two matches as they played Jackson Academy on Tuesday night this week and have MRA on Monday night on the road.
