More competitive fight is being shown on the volleyball court by Winston Academy even if the wins aren’t coming right now.
The Lady Patriots took on two great teams last week in Simpson Academy and Lamar School and couldn’t come away with a set win. It didn’t stop the team from fighting in both outings.
In a straight-sets loss to Simpson on the road last Tuesday, WA dropped a 25-17 decision in set one and lost 25-20 in set two before the Lady Cougars pulled away in the final set with a 25-13 win.
Jillian Sims led the way for WA in the loss with 11 digs, four kills and three aces. Braley Dickerson had six kills, five digs and a block, Chloe Hillyer finished with six digs and three kills and Ava Chancellor had 10 digs from her libero position.
On Thursday, WA had a great battle with Lamar School but couldn’t find a way to grab a set. After losing 25-16 in set one, the Lady Pats lost 25-22 and 25-22 in the next two sets to drop the match 3-0.
Dickerson had seven kills in the match with a block and two digs. Chancellor finished with 15 digs and Sims had seven digs, two kills and an ace.
The losses dropped WA to 8-11 on the year and it had a matchup with Pillow Academy on the road on Tuesday before going on the road next Tuesday to take on Jackson Academy. WA has already defeated Pillow this year 3-1 but lost 3-0 to JA.
