Eupora is red hot on the softball diamond.
The Lady Eagles are in the midst of a nine-game winning streak as Spring Break has hit and the young team is just getting started.
Last week was a big test for the Lady Eagles. After starting it off with a win over Winona, the team would close it with two more wins and start this week off the same.
Ethel was the first challenge in the latter part of last week as the Lady Eagles took on the Lady Tigers on Thursday evening. Trailing 1-0 heading into the sixth inning, Eupora rallied with a three-run sixth and held on to take the 3-1 victory.
Lindsey Turnipseed got things going in that sixth with a double that scored a run. Belle Tedder brought home the eventual game-winning run with a sacrifice fly and an error added one more for good measure.
The 8th grader Tedder also pitched a monster game against Ethel. She went 7.0 strong innings, scattered six hits, had one unearned run, zero walks and struck out seven batters.
On Saturday at Ethel, the Lady Eagles had a matchup with longtime, bitter rival East Webster. The Lady Eagles were able to come away with a 7-5 triumph over the Lady Wolverines thanks to nine hits and a big relief appearance from Tedder.
After the game was tied at 4-4 after three innings, Eupora scored two in the fourth and held the lead the rest of the way. Bella White started the game and went 5.0 innings with six hits, five runs, three earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts and Tedder threw 2.0 scoreless and hitless frames with two strikeouts of her own.
Mary Elizabeth White finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a double, Cydney Murphy was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jaden Guinn was 2-for-3.
Spring Break began earlier this week as Eupora hosted a double-header against Nanih Waiya. It was two convincing wins for the Lady Eagles starting with an 11-1, run-rule win in game one.
Eupora scored five runs in the second inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back as the team outhit the Lady Warriors 13-3. Just about everyone got involved in the party in the first game as Murphy led the team with a 3-for-4 day and three RBI.
Mary Elizabeth White, Turnipseed, Guinn and Madelyn McMullan all had two hits each with White and McMullan notching doubles. Turnipseed had two RBI.
On the mound, Tedder earned herself another win with 6.0 innings of three-hit, one-run ball and four strikeouts. The one run was unearned.
An eight-run first inning in game two set the stage for what would be another comfortable win as the Lady Eagles took home the 11-5 victory to sweep the series.
Of the 14 hits, Mary Elizabeth White led the team with a perfect 4-for-4 game. Emma Tindall had a 3-for-4 day, as did Guinn who drove in four runs and had a triple. Murphy had two RBI and a triple and Turnipseed had three RBI without garnering a hit.
Turnipseed also started the game and got the win after giving up two unearned runs in 3.0 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Alia Murphy pitched the final 4.0 innings with one hit, three unearned runs, three walks and seven strikeouts.
A year after winning just seven games, coach Clay Grissom has his Eupora team off to an incredible 14-3 start. The team is slated to play at Calhoun City next Monday at 6:30 p.m. before starting the Class 2A, Region 4 opener against Philadelphia on the road on Tuesday night. They will host the Lady Tornadoes at home on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
