The Grace Christian Lady Eagles took their first conference loss of the season this week,
dropping a 3-1 decision to Eagle Homeschool. The Lady Eagles dominated to claim the first set 25-13, however Eagle Homeschool took the last three sets in very close margins (25-23, 25-23, and 25-22).
Through the four sets played, GCS outscored Eagle Homeschool 93-88. “This was a very close competition as seen by the score,” GCS head coach Jamey Willers said, “This was a very mental game for us as we were undefeated in the conference and when we started getting down we got in our heads.” Shelby Morgan had 13 kills in the game, while Caydie White added six. Macy Joy played well setting with 19 assists. In the serving offense, Christinia Clark scored 16 points off of serves with four aces.
Defensively, Susanna Dobbs dominated as usual with 29 serve receptions and 23 digs. The Lady Eagles also claimed a conference sweep over Tupelo Children’s Mansion with scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-8. Morgan led with nine kills, while Dobbs served 13 times and scored off of 11 of those. Eight of Dobbs’s 11 points came from aces.
Macy Joy scored nine points off of serves with eight of those coming from aces. The Lady Eagles have one more conference game left, which will be next Thursday against Victory Christian.
The Lady Eagles will try to secure the number one seed of the conference tournament, which is scheduled to be held next weekend.
