Eupora is off to a hot start to the softball season.
The Lady Eagles came off of a defeat to rival Choctaw County last week and have won two of the last three ball games.
A Tuesday meeting with Winona was all Lady Eagles as Eupora pounded out 18 hits and allowed just one of its own in a 20-3 win in five innings. Eupora scored three runs in the first two innings and then dropped five runs in the third, four in the fourth and another eight in the sixth inning.
Bella White pitched 3.2 of those innings and gave up three unearned runs on one hit and four walks but she struck out 10 batters. Alia Murphy came in and pitched the final 1.1 innings and surrendered no runs, no hits, no walks and struck out two.
In the 16-hit barrage from the Lady Eagles, eighth grader Mary Elizabeth White went off for a 4-for-5 evening and drove in four runs with two triples in the game. Belle Tedder and Jaiden Quinn had three hits and three RBI a piece with Tedder notching a couple of doubles and Quinn a triple.
Anna Doggett had a 3-for-4 outing and Bella White had two RBI and two walks with one hit.
On Friday, the bats went silent and the Eupora defense struggled to play with consistency in a 5-0 loss at Smithville. The Lady Eagles had three errors, gave up 11 hits and had just five hits offensively in the loss.
Three of those hits came from the bat from Bella White as she managed to go 3-for-3 with a double. Maddie McMullan added a triple, but there was only one more hit the rest of the way for the Lady Eagles.
As the week turned, Eupora got back on track on Monday night as the Lady Eagles traveled to French Camp Academy. The game was never much in danger as the Lady Eagles managed to build a 5-0 lead by the fourth inning and then scored four runs each in the sixth and seventh on the way to a 13-0 shutout.
White dominated the Lady Panthers with 7.0 strong innings of two-hit ball. She didn’t surrender a run, walked just one batter and fanned 12 in the win. On top of the pitching performance, White had an RBI triple and a walk in the game. Tedder had two hits and two RBI and Quinn added two RBI with a hit as well.
Ansley Mason and Lindsey Turnipseed walked three times.
Eupora (6-3) hoped to keep the momentum going with a road trip against CCHS on Thursday night as they were looking to get revenge on a tough loss the week prior. The Lady Eagles will be back in action next Monday at home against Winona at 6:30 p.m. and next Thursday against Ethel, also at 6:30 p.m.
