The Grace Christian Lady Eagles are still undefeated in conference play as they earned huge wins over Victory Christian (New Albany) and Amory Christian. Two Mondays ago, the Lady Eagles swept Victory Christian (25-18, 25-21, 25-16). Shelby Morgan led hitting with nine kills, while Christina Clark added four. “We played solid with a lot of long rallies,” head coach Jamey Willers said.
Willers added that libero Susanna Dobbs was constantly on the floor making plays with saves. “Her defense is what kept us on top,” Willers said.
Later in the week on Thursday, the Lady Eagles earned a huge five set victory over Amory Christian (19-25,25-19, 25-19, 25-27, 17-15). The Lady Eagles came back from down 13-11 in the final set to win. Dobbs led with 40 digs, while Morgan added 30. Morgan also added 10 kills and eight aces. Macy Joy also added six aces, while Susanna Dobbs added five. “We were mentally tough in this match, and it would have been easy to lose our confidence,” Willers said, “I was very proud of their determination.”
This past Monday, the Lady Eagles earned another conference win against Tupelo Children’s Mansion where they swept them in three sets (25-14, 25-14, and 25-12). The Lady Eagles then hosted cross- county rival Noxapater and swept the dominant Lady Tigers in just three sets (25-22, 25-20, and 25-18. “I was very proud of my younger girls,” Willers said, “We have been working very hard on serve receive and passing control, and I saw great improvement in that area.” Willers said that her team covered the court well, getting up many solid and well-placed hits from the Lady Tigers.
“We played strong and aggressively on offense, looking for holes and powering through the ball. Against the Lady Tigers, Morgan dominated hitting with a .363 hitting percentage with 18 kills. Joy performed well setting, picking up 19 assists. Susanna Dobbs dominated defensively with 19 digs and 17 serve receptions, while Neely Dobbs dominated serving, scoring 13 points off of serves.
Tonight, the Lady Eagles will have senior night as they take on Eagle Homeschool. On Thursday, the Lady Eagles faced off against Tupelo Children's Mansion, however results did not meet press deadlines.
