The Grace Christian Lady Eagles had another multi-win week on the volleyball court, defeating both Heritage Academy and Victory Christian (New Albany).
Monday, the Lady Eagles hosted Heritage Academy, winning in four sets. After losing the second set, the Lady Eagles made a dominating effort winning the final two sets by a combined score of 50-28.
Shelby Morgan led the GCS offense with 10 kills and 17 good serves, 11 of which were aces. While tied 16-16 in the third set, Morgan came to serve and finished it out to win 25-17. Macy Joy and Bailey Troyer picked up 10 assists a piece, and Marleigh Turnipseed picked up 25 digs. Joy also picked up 10 digs. Susanne Dobbs received 20 serves with no errors, while Turnipseed received 16. Ella Crowder received 10.
The next day, the Lady Eagles picked up a conference win over Victory Christian, in four sets. Morgan once again led the offense with 18 good serves and nine aces. She had a hitting percentage of .235 with six kills. Mia Brownlee led digs with four, and Bailey Troyer received 14 serves while making no errors. Thursday came a conference loss for the Lady Eagles to Amory Christian.
“This was a hard mental match for us,” said Jamey Willers, GCS head coach. “We had trouble coming out the gate with any rhythm.”
After trailing 2-0 through the first two sets, the Lady Eagles were able to win the next two to force a fifth set, however, fell short 15-3.
Turnipseed led with six aces, while Troyer earned three kills and eight assists. Joy recorded nine assists, and Dobbs led defense with 20 digs and 31 serve receptions.
The Lady Eagles will take a road trip this week as they will face EAGLE Homeschool on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles were set to face Winston Academy on Monday and Heritage Christian/Tupelo Children's Mansion on Tuesday.
