Region 4-2A began last week for the Eupora Eagles as the team had a home-and-home with Union and it was a split in the action.
The Eagles started the week by scoring in the first five innings on the way to a nice 9-3 victory at home. Eupora scored a run each in the first three innings of a 3-2 ball game and then opened up the floodgates. Three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings allowed the team to pull away for good and get the win.
Giving away free bases was the only thing that plagued the Eagles in the ball game with seven walks and two hit batters, but it wasn’t enough to deter the team from a win. Landry Winter was outstanding in his 5.0 innings allowing just one hit, one run and three walks while striking out 11 batters.
Dale Britt pitched the final 2.0 frames and didn’t allow a hit but he did walk four batters and surrendered just a single unearned run. He struck out two batters in the win.
Eupora had nine hits as a team including three doubles and a triple. Jacob Surma, Brooks Powell and Joseph Rollins all had two hits each with Powell driving in three runs with a double, Surma driving in two RBI and also notching a double and Rollins collecting a triple.
Errors would do damage to the Eagles in the rematch last Thursday on the road. Four of them, to be exact, would sink Eupora in a close 4-2 defeat. It tarnished what was a relatively smooth pitching performance from Ames Conrad and Britt as the two combined to throw 7.0 innings of four-hit baseball with just one earned run surrendered, four walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Eagle bats would quiet as well with just five hits for the team.
Spring Break is here now and the Eagles began the week with a 7-2 loss to Ripley at Corinth on Tuesday. Eupora also played Lausanne out of Tennessee on Wednesday in Corinth in a game that went final after press time.
Eupora (3-9, 1-1 Region 4) will play again next week with a home game against Kosciusko on Tuesday at 7 p.m. They’ll be on the road taking on Nanih Waiya at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night and will play at Louisville on Saturday at Noon.
