Eupora has put together a challenging non-conference schedule and coach Ben Aldridge is hoping that his team will be prepared even better down the road because of it.
Included in that schedule was two Class 5A schools and a 4A school last week. The Eagles came away 0-3, but got better as a team.
In the first game last Monday against West Point, Eupora was limited at the plate for the first six innings and fell behind to the point the Eagles couldn’t quite get over the hump in a 5-3 defeat to the Green Wave.
It was a tough result because the team pitched well as Cullen Harrison threw 4.0 innings and gave up two hits, two runs, four walks and struck out six. Ty Murphy pitched the last 3.0 innings and had two unearned runs surrendered, walked two and struck out five. Three errors were a big reason why the team struggled to keep West Point off the board.
The Green Wave scratched across one run in five of the seven innings to build their lead. It was 5-1 heading into the final frame when Eupora got two runs across but that was all the team could muster.
The Eagles had five hits as a team and Tabb Powell led them with both RBI.
Hosting Neshoba Central on Thursday, Eupora gave up 10 hits and had just four of its own on the way to a 14-3 loss in just five innings. It was a game controlled very early by the Rockets as they scored four runs in the first, seven in the second and three more in the third to pull away.
No one had multiple hits for the second-straight game and junior Daniel Hawkins had the only RBI.
Eupora closed out the week on Friday hosting Houston in a game that was within reach. Tied at 8 heading into the seventh, however, Eupora surrendered four runs in the seventh to fall 12-8.
Once again, errors were the equalizer in the game as both teams had 10 hits, but Eupora had three errors and Houston just one. Ames Conrad led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 night and a game-high three RBI including a home run. Murphy and Austin Britt had two hits and each had doubles while Hunter Dorroh also had two base knocks.
Eupora (0-7) has a three-game week scheduled. The team will play Kemper County on Tuesday and Friday of this week and both games are scheduled to be at Eupora at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Eupora travels to New Albany and game time is 2 p.m.
