East Webster’s progression as a volleyball program continues to take a major turn upward.
The Lady Wolverines lost their first two matches of the year and three of the first four to tough programs like Tishomingo County, Pontotoc, and Hamilton. Since then, the team has been blazing hot.
Dallas McCracken’s squad has won nine-straight matches after taking two more last week against Kosciusko. Even more impressive is the fact that the Lady Wolverines have won 24 of the last 25 sets with the first set loss since their defeat at Hamilton coming against Houston last week.
The two-match road trip started in Kosciusko last Tuesday. EWHS came out and won the first set 25-19, had a tough second set with a 25-22 win, and finished off the eighth-straight shutout win with a 25-16 victory in set three to get the season series from the Whippets.
The Lady Hilltoppers of Houston were the ones to finally break the streak of sets won by the Lady Wolverines. It was a heated match between those two teams with two wild sets to start. Neither team gave an inch in the first set, running the score all the way up in the 30s before EWHS won the battle of endurance with a 32-30 victory. The second set was much of the same, and Houston was able to even things up as it took home a 28-26 win. But EWHS was the one that would maintain.
A 25-15 third set win and 25-16 victory in the fourth set earned EWHS the 10th win of the season and kept the match streak going. EWHS (10-3) will try to stay rolling with a tough matchup this week. On Tuesday, they hosted Class 6A Grenada. They cap off the week with the final non-conference match at Winona on Thursday.
District play begins next week.
