Class 2A, Region 2 had already ended for the Eupora Eagles, but they had a second meeting with a district foe in non-conference action when they played Bruce on Senior Night.
The boys squad recognized Jarvis McComb and Rett Embry in their final home games as Eagle players, but Eupora fell 71-50 to Bruce on Friday. In the game, Charles Potts had 16 points and KJ Gary finished with 10 points to lead the way for the Eagles.
The loss dropped the team to 3-14 on the season and they have an 0-5 mark in Region 2 play which has them as the sixth seed in the Region 2 tournament set to be played in Calhoun City next week.
The Lady Eagles followed suit with the boys falling 60-47 on the night. An incredible 28-point second quarter allowed Bruce to pull ahead. After getting an 11-8 lead after one quarter, Eupora fell behind 36-26 at the break. Eupora closed that lead to 8 points going into the fourth but Bruce held them to six points in the final frame to win.
Alexia Johnson had a huge game even in defeat as she finished with 25 points; scoring 13 in the first half and another 12 in the last two quarters. Johnson continues to be a bright spot with several other young players on the Lady Eagles’ team as the program had no seniors this season.
The Lady Eagles are now 6-12 on the year and finished 0-5 in Region 2 play, but the district tournament seeding is currently still unknown. Last week, Choctaw County and JZ George girls team had a fight that escalated during the ball game between the two teams and suspensions are pending for the two schools by the MHSAA at press time.
That also puts the matchup between the Eupora girls and CCHS in jeopardy on Friday but the boys team is expected to play at Ackerman that night still. Both teams also traveled to Vardaman on Monday night of this week.
