The Choctaw County Chargers and Lady Chargers had an eventful Christmas Break as they split wins with Aberdeen, East Webter, Leake Central, Pillow Academy, Oak Hill Academy, and Kosciusko as they took on Aberdeen and East Webster in division play and the Lady Chargers took Leake Central and Koscisko and the Chargers took on Oak Hill Academy and Pillow Academy as the girls took part in the McAdams Christmas tournament and the boys took part in the East Webster Christmas tournament.
Chargers v. Aberdeen
The Chargers took two wins over the Aberdeen Bulldogs at home. In the boys game, the boys defeated Aberdeen 68 to 33. Caleb Cunningham led the Chargers with 20 points, Garrick Alston had 19, Jakarius Weaver had 10, Allen Landrum and Chancen Mosley each had six points, Jamarion Baldridge had five points, and Quayvion Lowery had two points.
The girls also defeated Aberdeen.
Chargers v. East Webster
The Chargers took their second loss of the season against East Webster as the Wolverines were able to shut down the Chargers explosive run. In the boys’ game, Cunningham had 16 points, Alston had seven, Weaver had eight, Lowery had nine, Treyvionne Woodard had three, and Mosley had one. The girls fell to the Lady Wolverines 28 to 65 as again the Lady Wolverines were able to successfully shut down the Lady Chargers’ drive. The two meet agin later this month at the Cobb.
Lady Chargers v. Koscuisko/Leake Central
The Chargers and Lady Chargers split as each participated in two separate tournaments.
The Lady Chargers looked to bounce back against Kosciusko Lady Whippets in the McAdams Christmas tourney and succeeded. The Lady Chargers walked away with a 53 to 40 win that came down to the wire.
The Lady Chargers took to carry their momentum against the Leake Central Lady Gators but were not able to as the Lady Gators walked away with a 64 to 56 win in another close one that came down to the wire in McAdams.
Chargers v. Oak Hill/Pillow Academy
The Chargers walked away with two victories from the East Webster Christmas tournament as they defeated Oak Hill Academy and Pillow Academy. In the first game against Oak Hill, Cunningham had a very high scoring game with 38 points. Woodard had one of his highest scoring games adding 20 points, Alston had eight, and Mosley and the Lowery twins each had two points.
They then took on Pillow Academy in one that came down to the wire as the Chargers walked away with the 64-60 win against Pillow in Cumberland.
The Chargers will open the 2024 season with McAdams before jumping back into division play.
