The Chargers got back into the swing of things after Spring Break with a bit of a rocky start. They’re now 2-2 in district play after dropping two in back-to-back play against Mooreville.
But, the Chargers bounced back going 10 innings against the Kosciusko Whippets.
Mooreville 17, Chargers 0
Chargers weren’t able to get anything going against Mooreville at the Glass, only mounting two hits from Zabaius Miller and Lawson Stevens. The Troopers came in strong and mounted a big fourth inning against the Chargers to well, put the nail in the coffin.
On the mound was Miller, Jack Hood and Robby Curtis. Hood pitched three innings, struck out two, had six hitters and six runs. Miller and Curtis pitched half innings. Miller had four hitters, nine runs, and Curtis has one strike out, three hitters and two runs.
Mooreville 8, Chargers 4
In Mooreville, it was a bit of a different story but it wasn’t enough to get past the Troopers and the Chargers took their second division loss.
They were able to start a rally in the fifth inning and a rally in the seventh inning, after shut out innings but never fully caught a momentum. The Troopers again came in strong on the bat and stayed consistent.
And, in the end, it just wasn’t in the favor of the Chargers.
In the top of the fifth, Stevens got the Chargers on the board with their first run off of a grounder from Jonathan Ricardo.
The Chargers wouldn’t see any more life until the seventh inning when Tate Miller’s single brought in Jeramiah Miller and Stevens. Chargers would get their last run in off of a double by John Reese Staten, bringing in Ricardo.
But, the Chargers weren’t able to push for the bottom of the seventh and Mooreville took another win.
Chargers 10, Kosciusko 7
Coming off the two losses, the Chargers were determined to get back into the W column and needed a win against the Whippets.
Going down 10 innings, the Chargers battled back to take the win.
The Chargers took a 2-0 lead when Caleb McCulloch hit a homerun bringing in him and Stevens. Kosciusko gets on the board coming out of the first inning 2-1.
The Chargers wouldn’t get back on the board until the top of the third inning, by this time the score is 2-2.
Top of the third, Ricardo singles to left field bringing in Seth Miller making it 3-2.
That score was followed by two more innings where the Whippets didn’t allow the Chargers to capitalize but they were able to.
By the top of the sixth, the score was 5-3 and the Chargers were able to capitalize on a walk, with Staten scoring.
Following that walk, Seth Miller doubles bringing in Jeramiah Miller, Hood and Stevens, making the score 7-3.
In the seventh, Kosciusko evens the score making it 7 up. In the eighth and the ninth both teams were holding.
But at the top of the tenth determined to walk away with the win, the Chargers finally caught the momentum they’ve been needing and ended the game.
The rally started with a single by Jack Hood, followed by a bunt by Stevens which set Jalon James into motion to score. A single by Jeramiah Miller brings him in, making the score 8-7.
Seth Miller followed with a single, bringing in Hood making the score 9-7. That was followed by a single by McCulloch bringing in Stevens on the last score for the Chargers.
The Whippets had the bottom of the tenth but couldn’t make anything move and the Chargers left Kosciusko with the win.
On the mound was Hood, James, Brent Telano, Ricardo and Curtis. James pitched an three and a half innings, striking out four. Hood pitched an inning, striking out one, had one hitter and two runs in. Telano pitched one and had one strike out, one hitter and two runs in. Ricardo pitched one inning and had one walk and Curtis pitched three and a half innings and had two strikeouts, five hitters, and three runs in.
