Starkville Academy’s dual sport standout Colby Allen announced on Twitter recently that he’ll be continuing his baseball career at Northwest Community College in Senatobia. Allen still has one more year to go for the Volunteers, but he already knows where he wants to go.
“I am excited and blessed to announce that I will be continuing my baseball career at Northwest Mississippi Community College,” Allen said in a statement. “I want to thank God, and everyone who has helped me along the way.”
Allen was one of the Starkville Daily News area’s best baseball players this past season. He was one of the Vols’ most versatile players as he led the team in earned run average at 1.98. He threw in 12 games and 21.2 innings earning all three of SA’s saves on the year and walking just four batters to 30 strikeouts.
At the plate, Allen batted .310 with 31 hits, eight doubles and team high-tying four home runs and 32 RBI. His work in the field, at the plate and on the mound helped the Vols to a district championship and a 25-8 record that took them all the way to the north state championship where they came up just short to the eventual state champions of Magnolia Heights.
Baseball isn’t Allen’s only sport. He also stars for the Volunteer football team sharing time at quarterback and starting on the defensive side of the ball.
Allen is the second Volunteer to make a commitment this summer joining Starkville High transfer Hayes Davis who also committed to NWCC a couple of weeks ago. The team also has incoming senior RHP Evan Siary from South Carolina who has been committed to Mississippi State.
Those won’t be the only players that will be playing ball on the next level as others are soon to follow. The Vols returns a stacked roster from last season for Thomas Berkery’s fourth year.
