It was a busy week for the Winston Academy volleyball squad as the Lady Patriots followed up a win at East Webster on Monday with a trip to Louisville High School and then hosting the Winston County Classic.
WA started by knocking off Louisville in straight-sets at Louisville to get the juices flowing for the big tournament on the weekend. WA welcomed in Noxapater, Nanih Waiya and Grace Christian for a fun bracketed tournament on Saturday that brought out the best of the competition.
In game one of the tournament, WA played Noxapater and the Lady Pats dispatched of the Lady Tigers in a 2-0 straight-sets win. WA went up against Grace Christian in the second matchup as the two teams met for the second time this season.
After falling to Grace 3-1 earlier this year, WA took a competitive first set 25-23 over the Lady Eagles. However, the visitors were able to come back and take the next two and the match to get the win.
WA came back in the third match and went head-to-head with Nanih Waiya. It was again a solid showing by WA as they were able to take a 2-0 victory and move to the championship match to take on Grace for a second time. The Lady Eagles would again emerge victorious there and would take home the trophy, but not without a strong showing on the day from the hosts Lady Patriots.
To this point, WA is now 5-4 with three of the losses coming to the highly competitive Grace Christian Lady Eagles. It’s been a solid start to the season for the Lady Pats and they’ll try to keep it rolling this week. WA will go on the road to play an always-tough Choctaw County squad on Tuesday.
