It’s the final week of the regular season as the Winston Academy Lady Patriots are looking to finish the year with a winning record.
WA finished up last week with a loss to Heritage Academy and a win against Ethel after starting with a victory against Winona on Monday night.
Against Heritage, WA lost the match 3-0. It was a game in which coach Candice Cefalu thought her team wasn’t playing up to its best potential. Lack of communication hurt the Lady Patriots as they couldn’t get the win.
“The team did not communicate like they usually do,” Cefalu said. I could tell that they weren’t ready to play when they stepped on the floor. Service errors were a big factor in the loss.”
In the match, Chloe Hillyer didn’t have any problems serving. She managed a 100% mark on serves serves and had seven kills to go along with it.
The Lady Pats came back home on Thursday and got the win against Ethel in a 3-0 straight-sets victory with a 25-13 win in set one, 25-11 in set two and a 25-15 final set.
Julianna Sims came through in that game hitting on all 18 of her serves and eight of those were aces. Sims also had six assists, four digs and two kills in the win. Analeigh Dempsey had six kills, four aces and a block.
In the final week of the season, the Lady Pats traveled to Nanih Waiya on Monday night and played at Choctaw County on Tuesday. Going into those matches, the team had a 9-7 record.
