This past week continued the winning streak for both GCS basketball teams.
Coach Jason Morgan and the boys team traveled to Houston and played their JV team on Tuesday. The Eagles won 39-33. The Eagles were once up 14 in the third quarter, but Houston came back to cut the lead Bonner Brownlee had 13 points while Grayson Skelton had nine.
On Friday, the Eagles crushed Emmanuel Christian by a score of 62-10, after starting the game on a 38-3 run. The Eagles were 3/5 on dunks this game. Asher Hogue scored 15 points, while Brownlee added 10 to the Eagles total. "Had another solid week overall", said Morgan, "We are off to a good start due to defensive intensity, and we are really sharing the ball well on offense." Coach Talor Troyer and the Lady Eagle participated in a Round Robin tournament at Calhoun Academy. In the first game against Hebron Christian, the Lady Eagles won 59-33. Carley Peterson led with 18 points. Close behind were Carolyn Hogue, who scored 13, and Anna Rose Eaves who scored 10. Peterson and Grace Marie Holman led the Lady Eagles in rebounds. In the second game, the Lady Eagles defeated Calhoun Academy, 39-30. Peterson scored 21, with Aspen Harris adding 11.In the third game against Desoto Academy(Arkansas), the Eagles won 43-34. Peterson scored 16, as Harris was close behind with 14. Troyer said she was very proud of her girls and looks forward to the rest of the season. This week GCS will travel to Starkville Christian on Tuesday and then travel to Tupelo Homeschool on Friday.
