Winston 4-H is indeed doing everything mentioned in the title. Winston’s first 4-H Community Service Club met the last Saturday in February and had a great time learning from Mr. Todd McCullough (Louisville City Parks and Rec. Director) all aspects of managing Park’s & athletic fields operated by the city, as well as managing the coliseum for community events. It was a first for some of the 4-Hers to get an opportunity to sit on a tractor and operate some of the implements.
Also, the club worked with officer Lawrence Estes with the Litter-less Louisville Campaign to help keep Louisville clean. The Citizenship Club will adopt a portion of Vance Street this year, and make sure they do their citizens duty in not only promoting a clean community, but actually keeping it litter free. Winston 4-H Citizenship Club is literally picking up.
Winston’s 4-H Sport Fishing Club and Kayak Club also met on March 3rd to make plans for 2020. Both these clubs will kick off programming with a trip to Bass Pro in Pearl on Saturday March 21st. The clubs will get a chance to learn fishing and kayaking from experts and get a chance to tour the store and see how these sports impact the state economically. Bass pro representatives will host us and educate our members on Bass Pro beginnings, and career opportunities. Should be a lot of fun learning how to catch fish and making some waves.
Lastly, Winston 4-H started its first ever Grill Club. These lucky 4-Hers will get an opportunity to learn just about every aspect of cooking on a grill, and how to do it safely. This group will actually “Learn by Doing” by firing up the charcoal and seasoning different types of meats and vegetables for cooking and eating at each meeting. The club set its first meeting date to be March 20th at 4:30pm at the Extension office.
