Winston County Circuit Clerk Kim Ming notified the Winston County Board of Supervisors of the Writ of Special Election for Senate District 32.
Democratic Sen. Sampson Jackson of Preston stepped down June 30, the last day of the state budget year.
Ming noted that if not for the special election Winston County would not have had an election this November. The election set by Gov. Tate Reeves will be November 2. Ming added that if a runoff is needed, that it will be Nov. 23

Jackson had been in the Senate since 1992 and was chairman of the Forestry Committee this term. He represented District 32, which includes Kemper, Lauderdale, Noxubee and Winston counties. Sen. Jackson had two and a half years left in his term.
Legislators are not at the Capitol now, and their regular session begins in January.
At least four persons in the district have shown interest in the position with Kim Houston and Don Wiggins already campaigning for the position. Houston was scheduled to be at the Winston County Courthouse July 20 for an official announcement and meet and greet.
In Winston County polling stations in the District 32 voting are: American Legion, County Agent, Fairground, and Mill Creek.
