The March 11 Louisville Rotary program was Steve Jones of Shining Light Search and Rescue. He gave a very interesting program. The program was arranged and introduced by Rotarian Johnny Snow.
In Winston County, a family is saving lives using their trusted search and rescue dogs.
Shining Light Search and Rescue is a nonprofit organization that helps to look for people who are in distress or imminent danger. Founder Steve Jones started this service three years ago with only one rescue dog.
Now he has two with a family of four to back him up. The families search and rescue dogs are trained to find people who are lost in the wilderness or buried. Jones says everyone should be treated like family, especially those lost or in danger.
“This person that’s missing is someone’s brother or sister. If your brother or sister was missing, wouldn’t you want to go find them? Yes, you would. That’s how I see this we are all brothers and sisters and this service is to help find them,” founder Steve Jones.
“I hope this can inspire a lot of other people to do something similar and to always help those around you,” says family member Riley Jones.
The organization had its first successful live search this year in finding a 9-year-old girl. If you would like to help or donate, you can go to their Facebook at Shining Light Search and Rescue or send funds to their Venmo account at Steve-Jones-309.
