In their regular monthly meeting, on Tuesday, April 21, the Louisville Municipal School District Board of Trustees, heard from Superintendent Dr. Randy Grierson concerning a grading scale for students during the COVID-19 shutdown.
Grierson stated that there had been many discussions and three different tiers suggested by the Mississippi Department of Education, and that they had looked at every possible scenario to find an equitable scale to benefit all District students.
The students lost only the last nine-weeks of the school year, therefore it was proposed to average the first three nine-weeks, and look at other criteria such as benchmarks andclassroom participation.
Grierson said that under this system just over 30 of the District’s 2,700 students will be held back, which is a very low number, and that all seniors will graduate.
The Board voted unanimously to approve the scale.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 to approve the consent agenda which included: staff recommendations, approvals to reemploy, supplement approvals, approval of coaching supplements, approval of staff resignations for the upcoming school year.
• Voted 5-0 to approve Claims Dockets and March 2020 Activity/Agency Fund checks.
• Voted 5-0 to approve March 2020 bank balances and financial reports.
