BackgroundChecks.org has announced the 2020 Top School District Rankings for every state.
The analysis covers a variety of metrics for over 10,000 schools, highlighting the districts that have produced and fostered the highest-quality educational environments for its students, according to a March 10 release.
The Choctaw County School District ranked No. 83 out of the top 100 districts in Mississippi. Topping the list in Mississippi (1-5) were Ocean Springs, Clinton, Oxford, Biloxi and Tupelo.
One of the main considerations for families looking to relocate is choosing a city based on how well its school district — and ultimately, its students — perform. Some of these differences in performance stem from the additional resources certain school districts have access to, which, in turn, lead to better scholastic conditions and a stronger education for students involved.
BackgroundChecks.org’s Top School District Rankings were determined by assessing crucial scholastic and financial metrics, including student-to-teacher ratio, standardized test scores, teacher quality, graduation rate and school funding for over 10,000 schools in the United Sates. Data was gathered from databases at the National Center for Education Statistics and the U.S. Department of Education.
These variables contributed to the ranking: number of students (K-12), graduation rate, school funding per student, student to teacher ratio, percent of students scoring above proficient in standardized state math test, percent of students scoring above proficient in standardized state reading and language test. Data from a total of 10,247 public school districts were used to compute a score for each school district.
