Conley of Birmingham are visiting in the home of J. M. Clegg. - Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Ray left on Tuesday for Vaiden, being called there by the serious illness of relatives. - Dr. Slaughter and wife of Dancy visited in the hospitable home of F. P. St. Clair on Saturday and Sunday. Miss Bessie Clark of Duck Hill visited her cousin, Mrs. Fannie Ouzts, Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Julia Brown, the former’s aunt, went back home with her. - Tom and Miss Zola Kimbrell of Cumberland visited Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Ouzts on Saturday and Sunday. They were accompanied home by C. C. Ouzts. OLD CITIZEN of WEBSTER DIES: W. E. Shaw, father of Supt. E. M. Shaw of Webster County, died at his home in Walthall Thursday night of last week. Mr. Shaw was one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizens of the county site, having been a resident of the place ever since the town was laid off. By his kind and thoughtful disposition, he had won a large circle of friends throughout the county. STURGIS SAYINGS [By Miss Sallie Bevil]: Mrs. Lizzie Frazier of Webster is quite sick in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henrietta Rainey. - Miss Hannah Barron is suffering from an acute attack of inflammatory rheumatism. - Mrs. R. E. Hannah and Miss Roby are quite sick. - Mr. Koontz went to Ackerman Saturday. - Measles is successor to smallpox. Attorneys Sam Houston of Ackerman and Ames Saunders of Starkville were here Friday on professional business. - We enjoyed a visit with Miss Edith Sullivan to Miss Julia Wade in the home of Mr. W. N. Taylor Sunday. - Miss Susie Shropshire of Ruleville spent a day and night with her parents on her return from Aberdeen. Maben has been selected for the next meeting of Oktibbeha County Teacher’s Association. Let everybody attend and make the last one the best. We understand that Mr. R. A. Lampkin of Starkville has offered the prizes to the school girls of Oktibbeha - $3 each for the best shirt, dress, and quilt cut and made by a girl under 15 years of age, add $1 dollar for the best hemstitched handkerchief. Let the Sewing Club keep pace with the Corn Club. Candied Sweet Potatoes – Cold sweet potatoes cut in thick, lengthwise slices may be made into candied dainties for lunch. Dip them in olive oil and then sprinkle thickly with sugar. Place in the oven for about 10 minutes and they will be a dark brown and very sirupy.
